But then, that would have been, like, 40 years ago, at Dan's in the middle of the week for no more than 10 bucks, tops. And l would have been a lot more interested. Or maybe all the people that would have been there then are all teaching now (I can think of 3 without even trying...) and that's going to be the audience. Today's students laying out $20 is a bit of a stretch, maybe But maybe not, the guy's still an idol in those circles. Yeah, but somebody got the hookup with them, so maybe there will be a little bit of more forthcoming until they realize that even if they sell out shows, jazz is bad for their image in the community that is the place where they are, not just The Colony, but Grandscape to boot! Or maybe the Nebraska Furniture Mart crowd will drop the kids off at the water park and step in for a draw and a few times. The area is like, literally, 15-20 minutes from where I live, what with the Sam Rayburn Parkway cutting down the east-west time for but a mere pittance Recently I've been up in the Colony a few times. Really dislike the area. Very overcrowded. Insane speeding aggressive drivers. Strip malls and chain restuarants and stores everywhere. Suburbia and freeway nightmare. Quote
JSngry Posted September 22, 2021 Report Posted September 22, 2021 No, not suburbia - exurbia. You got The Colony (both words capitized, please note!), Frisco, Allen, Anna, it keeps going, all the White Flight from the suburbs! Seriously! Not just aggressive drivers, but aggressive Mega-SUV drivers, like, in vehicles of a size which existing roadway-size ratios were not built to accommodate being driven in ways that would have gotten my ads locked by my dad and/or my driver's Ed teacher. Shared space, what's that???? World gone wrong. Quote

He's a wonderful person, and his approach to playing is thoughtful. No clichés from this guy, he thinks in terms of language, full sentences and developing his statements. He definitely creates that sense of "in the moment" that is sorely lacking so/too many times, all over the world (join hands, etc.) Anybody with a chance to hear him should definitely carpe diem. kh1958 Posted October 27, 2021 Author Report Posted October 27, 2021 I've seen him twice and quite liked his playing. He seemed very nice also when I picked up a couple of his CDs. 4 minutes ago, JSngry said: I've only had the pleasure of hearing Quamon a handful of times, and the pleasure of speaking with him at length once.
