dosjam Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I loves me some Sonny Criss. I have these on CD but the brand new vinyl will be very tempting. It'd be cool if Classic would continue with the Prestige years on through the Muse catalog. Quote
wolff Posted May 28, 2005 Author Report Posted May 28, 2005 Any info on recording engineer and location recorded? Quote
JohnS Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I have Japanese vinyl - no information on who engineered these dates but they were recorded in Los Angeles in 1956 Quote
Alfred Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I have this 2CD set BN released some years back. Nice music but I'm happy with the CD and don't need an upgrade on LP. I like his Prestige titles a lot more and I'm glad to have some of these recordings as originals on LP. Quote
ajf67 Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I wish someone would do a nice mono re-issue of Sonny's Dream. Love that one. Quote
Bill Nelson Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Why the mono fixation? Has the stereo been futzed-up? I recently got a stereo OJC 'endangered' CD which sounds just fine. 'Dream' is a surprisingly creative date, highly recommended. (Surely to be doomed to extinction by Concord/Universal.) Quote
sidewinder Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I wish someone would do a nice mono re-issue of Sonny's Dream. Love that one. ← Worth checking with Mr Tanno to see if he has a nice Japanese Prestige of this up his sleeve. That's how I got mine.. Quote
ajf67 Posted June 6, 2005 Report Posted June 6, 2005 Good idea Sidewinder. Regarding mono, it's just a preference. I don't have any reason to think the stereo has anything wrong with it, it's just that I have grown to prefer mono. To me, it is easier to imagine a real band in front of me whebn I close my eyes. There's no artificial stereo separation. I particularly like it for recordings from the 50s and early 60s. These days, most people prefer surround sound and the remastered versions of things that can come out of 5 speakers. I've just never gone that way. For one, I like the soundstage of mono (or simple stereo), and I really don't want 5 speakers in my living room. Quote
wolff Posted June 6, 2005 Author Report Posted June 6, 2005 After these Criss titles, I could see Classic staying with Imperial and issuing: LP-9027 - Jazz Of Two Cities - Warne Marsh Quintet LP-9043 - London Jazz - Dizzy Reece Quintet LP-9046 - Little Giant Of Jazz - Tubby Hayes Quartet Quote

I'd be all over the Reece and Hayes titles myself. Here's hoping... Quote
