wolff Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I count about 190 titles 'in-stock' or 'pre-order'. If I'm not mistaken in my count, that's the good news. Bad news...as many of you know, these are from digital masters. In most cases, very nicely done, but still..... $10 a pop, and may be a buck or two cheaper if you order direct from Fanatsyjazz.com(I have not checked recently). I'll probably order 10 or so, cross checking to see if better mastered copies are available. The obvious are the 45RPM, all analog titles from this catalog, but at $50 a pop, I pause. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 At the very least, it is a nice sign that Concord is supporting vinyl. Dropped prices on OJC cds, as well. Quote
Z-Man Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Digital master or not, I just picked up Walt Dickerson's "To My Queen" on OJC vinyl, and it sounds killer. Maybe the CD sounds this good, but I doubt it. For 10 bucks a pop on these you can't go wrong. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Great! A chance to hear my OJC cds with surface noise! Quote
wolff Posted July 5, 2005 Author Report Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) Quite a few of my OJC's sound great, also. At the moment it's Oliver Nelson: Straight Ahead. Here's is a LINK to Acoustic Sounds' stock. Edited July 5, 2005 by wolff Quote

wolff Posted July 5, 2005 Author Report Posted July 5, 2005 (edited) Another thought......Acoustic Sounds is remastering 100 Fantasy jazz/blues titles in analog for their 45 RPM series. I believe they are on the 3rd series of 25. They did both 33 1/3 and some 45 RPM with the Creedence(Fantasy owned) titles. I would love to see Hoffman and Gray(cutting engineer) turn around and do the jazz titles in 33 1/3 analog, for about $20 a title. Edited July 5, 2005 by wolff Quote
spinlps Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Don't forget the German OJC's that have come to market in the last 4 - 5 years. I ran into a large selection while in Atlanta last week. Same store had a nice selection of sealed older OJC's at MSRP and lower. Heck, I picked up a sealed 3LP JATP Pablo for $10! wolff - I've yet to pick up the 45RPM's either as the price is a bit daunting. $50 for one LP of music vs. 5 OJC's at $10 a pop. I'm sure the sound is great, but not the best bang for buck on the music front. Quote

jazzhound Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 sold all mine for 4 bucks a pop. don't miss them. Quote
wolff Posted July 7, 2005 Author Report Posted July 7, 2005 (edited) bought many of mine for 4 bucks a pop. glad I got 'em. Edited July 7, 2005 by wolff Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 10, 2005 Report Posted July 10, 2005 pop. Yes, Dorham's 'Blue Spring' is littered with them. Swore off the OCJs after that. Quote
wolff Posted July 10, 2005 Author Report Posted July 10, 2005 (edited) Looks like 35 more titles have been added, bringing the total to about 225. Edited July 10, 2005 by wolff Quote

I bought all of their 33 1/3 records before they started these 'no compromise' audiophile series at 45 RPM, and 50 $PM. BTW they just reissue the Davis Prestige Set at 250 $ http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_det...?Title_ID=16183 Quote
spinlps Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Bad news...as many of you know, these are from digital masters. In most cases, very nicely done, but still..... ← Actually, a Fantasy rep. who is a frequent contributor to another forum / mailing list I frequent has repeatedly stated that the vast majority of OJC LP's, despite the jacket text, are actually made with analog masters w/o, as stated in another thread, the use of processing or equalization which "taints" some of the current digital reissue programs. Unfortuneately, given the breadth of the Fantasy / OJC catalog, he has not been able / willing to take Y/N inquiries for specific titles. The $10 Acoustic Sounds OJC additions came up this week and he reiterated his previous statements regarding analog mastering for OJC LP's. YMMV, but he seems a trusted source and even arranged a tour of the Fantasy vaults for a forum gathering two years ago. Quote
wolff Posted July 13, 2005 Author Report Posted July 13, 2005 Is that right? Interesting, thanks. He's probably a much more reliable source than me. Quote

I figured they were digital too until he said otherwise. Heck, I even have an OJC identification guide gathering dust from that forum somewhere. Quote
spinlps Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 FYI... Dusty Groove has been getting batches of new OJC LP's and selling them for $6.99! Quote
