We'll look into the Chatterbox. Anyone know if the Jazz Cooker is still having music? The calendar on their website is not updated.

Are there any microbreweries where the college kids hang out featuring live music? We go over reallly well at those types of places.

The ghosts of Wes, J.J., and Carl Perkins will see you now.;)

Jim, have you tried the Chatterbox? Very small venue down on Massachusetts Avenue... the stage is in the window. Legendary once upon a time for not being too great, pay-wise... but that was 10-15 years ago. Don't know what the story is now (I think it's still owned by David Andrichik).

For Bloomington I'd still suggest the Players' Pub or Bear's Place.

The Chatterbox is a fun place but it's primarily locals....not to say they wouldn't book you. It's a pretty small place but much fun. David (david@chatterboxjazz.com) is still the owner.

I just sent a long-winded note to David at the Box. I filled him in a little on the band and your music and told him I'd be glad to get a copy of your cd to him. Not really sure how many bands he brings in from out of town but told him you guys would be great!

You may want to follow up with a call or email to him.

Thanks, Mark. I think Greg may have emailed him last night as well, so we'll follow up after the holiday. I found a list of breweries in Indy, but none of them seem to have live music, which I find very odd. Beer and music go together like fries and salt, imo.

How small is the Chatterbox stage? Is it big enough for the trio? We can fit in some pretty tight spaces.

Space is tight as hell but they usually have a piano/drums on it so I think you'd fit......just don't forget the irish springs!!!

I sent you a pm about two other places that may work out.

....ah, the Rods and Cones....PJ Lavengood on guitar....very good player. I saw them several times and they also opened for SRV at Clowes Hall. I had front row seats and SRV sat down on the front of the stage about 2 feet from me with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth....played one tune for 15-20 minutes...by this time it was about a 4" long ash hanging from him lip!!!......what a killer show!!!

I love the way SRV would use those big shiny mailbox letters on his guitar to spell out SRV.....man, I miss that dude!!! :(

m~

Was it PJ or PK? I can't quite remember. But, man did they have a setlist. Over 300 tunes! For a three piece band they had a big sound. He played in a lot of different open tunings which helped for sure. And he was (is?) an exciting player.

If we ever get to meet in person, remind me to tell you of my SRV experience(s). One is really cool and personal.

Stevie believed in what he did and it came through in his playing like few others. To see him live, really brought that honest emotion across. I know of several people who were critical of him, until they saw a show. Boatload of emotion, with that man.

Wow, I hadn't thought about Rods and Cones in years. I used to go see them at the Bluebird in Bloomington when I was underage and admittance was pretty easy... yeah, Lavengood was a hell of a guitar player. Not sure whatever happened to him. I think it was "PK," but not sure about that either.

Quick Google search seems to turn up that he's been playing with John Eddie for the past 15 years:

PK Lavengood

Drop down just a bit and you'll see his band profile.

If I lived in Indy now, I'd want to live in one of the upstairs apartments on Mass Ave, across the street from the Chatterbox. (Although I do miss Mass Ave in its transitional years, when I worked down there at Mugwump's... funky low-rent art galleries and a couple of sketchy bars, it wasn't quite gentrified yet... but it sorely needed a record store, and now it has a good one.)

...now, that's not very nice  Indianapolis is a beautiful city!!!

Is that why you live in Carmel?

...well, to me they are one and the same....just a nice little suburb of Indy. I only put Carmel on my profile because it's my mailing address. I did live in the heart of the city for many years in a renovated school built in the late 1800's...very nice with a great veiw of the city!

Now Jazzmessenger is picking on me.....he hasn't been on the boards in weeks and he's picking on me  !!!

Yep, that's the guy. He was a treat to watch play. Creative cat.

Bob and Tom used to make jokes about Carmel housewives. My favorite:

"what is a waterbed to a carmel housewife?...the dead sea!"

wait, that could be the guy's fault too,

hey that ain't that damn funny

:)

In all seriousness,

Indy has done a lot since the mid 80's. Indeed a beautiful city!

Hey Mark,

I was just joking (although I don't think Carmel and Indianapolis are "one and the same".) I have been around the forum, but I wasn't postng as much as I used to.

Chatterbox seems like a nice place, but the stage is far too small for us. Greg talked to someone there. I guess there's a piano which is not movable and no room for an organ.

Any other ideas? I did send a kit to the Indy Jazz Fest. We'll see what happens there...

Jim,

Just sent you a PM regarding Festival.
