felser Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Hi, I have Joe Henderson's "Double Rainbow" CD autographed by Henderson ("To George, Joe Henderson"). Looking to sell or trade, best reasonable offer. I got this as part of a lot on ebay recently, already have the CD. The autograph is nice to have, but figure it may mean more to someone else than to me. Henderson was great, and I'm very thankful for his musical legacy, I'm just not a huge autograph person. Let me know if you're interested in this. Quote

Aggie87 Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 That's why when I get things signed I just get the signature without any dedication. ← To each their own, but I've never intentionally had anything autographed for the purpose of selling the item at a profit....or with the thought that I can re-sell it later for whatever reason. Some of my autographs are personalized, some aren't; I'm happy to have met the artist and to have a special mememto of that meeting. Quote

I'm not sure I could ask someone NOT to personalize an autograph. What would he/she think? Quote
felser Posted September 29, 2005 Author Report Posted September 29, 2005 I have a personalized autograph from Richie Havens to my family when we met him at a concert, and he was such a beautiful person, and so wonderful to my adopted daughter. He personalized it "To my friends the Felser's", and that means a lot to me. Not something I'll ever be looking to sell on ebay, but rather something to keep in our family at least through my daughter's lifetime. Quote

I understand this is really ugly, but I could not resist. The message made me do it. Quote
felser Posted September 29, 2005 Author Report Posted September 29, 2005 If I lost my daughter, selling something on ebay would be the least of my concerns. She's wonderful - though in my primary failing as a parent, she came out of the musical closet recently, and confessed that her genre of preference was country! Where did I go wrong? Raised her on oldies, especially Motown, with doses of classic rock and classic jazz. Tim McGraw she found all by herseif, with no help from mom or dad. I was OK through her Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston phase, but now this! At least she hates rap as much as her dad does... Quote

However, since none of us are going to live forever, someone may want to "sell" things at a later date. I mainly collect signed first editions of books. Everyone I know says they're worth more if not dedicated to anyone. I do often get them dated & include the city they were signed in. No author has ever been offended by this. I'm not really sure if that's also true for LPs & CDs. Quote
