But, Jim allows it. So, if you are a taper and you are reading this, you may wish to check with the venue first. g Quote
sheldonm Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 I saw Sco tonight in Indy and put in a good word for you guys. Everyone was taping the shows; he didn't appear to care. Guys sitting in the front row with their recorders sitting at the base of the stage in full view. BTW, the show was smokin'!!! m~ Quote
sheldonm Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 ...and here is an image I made tonight! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Well, we had a great time opening for Sco. The audience was very receptive and we sold some CDs. It was cool to meet the man and his band (Gary Versace was killin' on the Hammond). It was really cool when Sco thanked us from the stage. The band was tight... Scofield is at the top of his game right now. He just seems totally unimpeded in expressing his ideas. It is very inspiring from a musician's standpoint. Quote
Joe G Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Absolutely. I've seen him regularly since '92, enjoyed every show, but last night REALLY knocked me out. His sense of rhythm is fantastic. Quote

GregN Posted October 24, 2005 Author Report Posted October 24, 2005 Absolutely. I've seen him regularly since '92, enjoyed every show, but last night REALLY knocked me out. His sense of rhythm is fantastic. ← It was very inspiring. ← Curious how you will use this inspiration. Details please. ← At least a couple of ways. The very first thing I did when I got home was to reharmonize, albeit gently, Georgia. My ears don't always go for the harmonically extended stuff of Scofield but his feel and presentation was sublime and because of that alone, he drew me into the harmonic stuff. Some of it, I got. Most I didn't. At least, not technically. Tonight I am working on Hendrix's Little Wing with some reharmonizations. Also, Scofield's drummer reminded me of a couple of my drummers in terms of feel and approach, and I was inspired by how Scofield played off of his drummer, Steve Hass. Who is by the way, a very cool guy as well as being a great drummer. I am not a jazz/fusion player, per se, yet, again, I've been inspired by such a musician. Was not even close to being a Scofield fan before the show. Nothing against the man, just did know much about him, I am ashamed to admit. However, the music happening that night made me a believer. He is a very talented and legit artist, imho. And while my general tastes lean more toward old school Blues and Jazz, the man has earned my respect with his performance. Mostly, I've been inspired to practice a bit more, pay more attention to set programming with my own band, and reflect on my own note choices. g Quote
