Guest akanalog Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 well people on this board hate on karl jenkins, but i for one enjoyed his style of composition (songs based on patterns and riffs rather than chord progressions). i mean he definitely recycled riffs (song for the bearded lady/hazard profile) but i like them. and i know my pops listens to his more recent cheesy new age/classical stuff w. adiemus. so someone appreciates what he's been doing. though-elton john wears a wig and maybe karl jenkins wears a wig! so isn't that fascinating. a fascinating connection. and i am not trying to denigrate the recently passed elton dean, but i never really dug what he brought to soft machine. i did not like his shrill horn tone (especially teamed up with ratledge's shrill tone) and i did not think he brought much to the table as a pianist. i appreciate jenkins contributions a lot more. obviously dean went on to try to do a lot more interesting and challenging stuff than jenkins and has a more respectable and impressive body of work, rod, so i can't debate that point.
