Alexander Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 (edited) Has anyone else heard this? I picked it up when it came out on Tuesday. A wonderful duet album full of beautiful playing and lots of harmonic surprises. The interaction between these two is amazing. Recommended! Edited March 18, 2006 by Alexander Quote
jlhoots Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 It's enroute to me in my latest CDU order. Looking forward to it. Quote
Head Man Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Marital Solal? Is that his married name? Quote
brownie Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 (edited) What I find wonderful about this record is how the two players express brillantly the pleasure they get from their mutual improvisations and manage to present such a wide range of emotions. Another one that gets more interesting at each listening! I had failed to be really impressed by Dave Douglas previously but this album (and several Masada appearances among others) have made me appreciate what he is doing! brownie Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Just as startling and interesting is this album released this week over here by Nocturne and where Solal duets with trumpet player Eric Le Lann (who is among other gigs a member of the trumpet section in Solal's Dodecaband orchestra). This was recorded in 1999. It includes among other tunes, an exceptional version of Bronislau Kaper's 'Invitation'. Solal's solo there is a breathstopping marvel! Quite awesome to have two simultaneous releases of superb albums of Solal and trumpet duos! Quote
EKE BBB Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Just as startling and interesting is this album ... released this week over here by Nocturne ... This week? How could I buy it two weeks ago second-hand at Jussieu Jazz? Absolute ditto to your comments on this wonderful disc! Quote

Many critics here (this happens elsewhere!) boost their income by selling the records they get free. Official release date for this CD was March 6! Quote
Clunky Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 thanks for the info on these, Solal is always tempting Quote
