The first three season are stone cold classics.

Once Grady took over and Bubba left the show, it fell off for me.

Love Foxx's LPs though. Someone needs to put out a boxset of his recordings, ala the Pryor Complete Warner Brother's set.

Don't get me wrong, I love Sanford and Son, but TVLand and these damn marathons bore the hell out of me.

It's not like they dont already have the show airing multiple times a day.

I can agree because it's already in the lineup, but I wish they would have a maraton of Barney Miller or WKRP.

Wouldn't leave the couch all weekend.

:)

No doubt.

I like the TV marathon concept, always have. But TVLand is either doing marathons of shows already being aired or about to be put in the lineup. I never understood the idea of showing 48 hours worth of a series before you start to show it every day. Some of these shows were so short lived they can't even fill 48 hours of programming.

Anyways, I'm with you on Barney Miller and WKRP. I could also dig something like the Odd Couple, Bob Newhart, or the Honeymooners.

Some of the best shows were when Grady was in the show.

Most of the old good shows get their turn in the marathon series; All In The Family, Beverly Hillbillies, Three's Company, etc., etc., etc., so why not Sanford and Son?

All will get their turn.

This is at least the second time they have done a Sanford and Son marathon.

I disagree about Grady. IMHO, the earlier episodes were funnier because they are within the context of Fred being a junkyard owner who is willing to do anything to get ahead, instead of the post Bubba period where all sorts of silly stuff happens like Fred meeting Lena Horne. I loved the first three seasons from Netflix and than when the season started without Fred I couldn't deal with Grady, other than the classic salad episode, so I only see those season occassionally on TV Land.

I guess earlier, what I loved about the show was Foxx's unprofessional presence and how he would have strange, unpredictable reactions to things. In the later episodes, things just seem more predictable and more rehearsed.

Just about every comedy (the best ones) that are over 10 years old have had their "turns" at being on a marathon of some sort. Sanford and Son is not the only one doing a "repeat."

I caught a couple of them, but can't allow myself to spend the entire day in front of the TV.

Any episode without Fred (such as the Grady episodes) is not nearly as good.

Of course, nobody can watch them all but my reference was not to Grady "without" Fred but rather with him.

Agreed, in the beginning they were always testing new ground.

A friend of mine called me one day (in NYC) and told me he had hit the numbers, so he was going to Hollywood and see if he could get into something. He was an old showbiz pro, a comedian who had written a couple of rather successful songs (Let the Good Times Roll and I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You). Anyway, the next thing I knew he was on "Sanford and Son," playing Red Foxx's brother.

His name was Sam Theard and they called him Spodee-odee. Allen may be the only one here who has heard of him (well, Chuck, too, I suppose).

Just a little background in case you see Sam in this marathon. DOCU_5479.jpg

Just realized that the marathon mentioned is long over, but isn't TV Land running the series again? I saw a couple the other night, somewhere on the tube.

I'm glad to see I Love Lucy back on.

The schedule sucks and has sucked for a long time. The management of this network sucks.

All they do is re-run the same four or five shows 24 hours a day and then do a marathon of one of them every other weekend.

Benson

Three's Company

Little House on the Prarie

No thanks. :bad:
