then how the $$^$((%&( did the guy have a 99.7 satisfaction rating!?!?!?!

how the hell am i supposed to know he sucks if the only reviews are positive?

IMHO, it's even harder to deal with because he stocks so many great titles.

This guy stocks (or at least LISTS) Steeplechase titles but people should know that its Peter at Stateside Distributors that has all the Steeplechase titles. He's the authorized distributor (I think) for that label.

As far as Caiman goes, I understand the aggravation people express, but not only have I had no problems with them, but it seems as though they have worked to improve their system a great deal. My recent purchases have included several discs that they did not actually have in stock. Now, however, your purchase generates an email notification that includes a link to your order status. For things that are not in stock, it will show "In Transit" with an approximate ship date. In the last three or four cases, I knew that they were securing my discs so I didn't have to wonder, and ultimately all items were secured and shipped out before the anticipated date. So, adding in the fact that Caiman ships from Miami and I usually receive their CDs much much faster than mot media mail packages, I plan to continue shopping with them. Really my only complaint is that you don't get a break on multiple CDs. Each one gets charged the full shipping price, which is already well over the true cost of Media Mail. Obviously they've worked that in to their business model so they can offer lower prices.

ok they might not suck but two or three other people in this thread have had unsatisfying experiences with them. so i mean there is a pattern here...

Right now, it looks like I am in the same position as you, but with this seller named moviemarz. I ordered 6 CDs from him and he hasn't responded to any of my emails. He has a 98% feedback and I have had good luck with him in the past, but I have a bad feeling this time because most of the CDs were hard to find Solal CDs.

To be honest, unless a seller is fairly new so that one neg pulls his rating way down, I wouldn't buy from anyone rated less than 99%.

Interesting. I picked up a couple of hatOLOGY Cecil Taylor CDs that CDHut had listed on ebay a couple of months ago. I was going to get the Ayler Lorrach hatOLOGY disc from him as well, but by the time I got around to doing so, the auction had ended without any takers and he'd relisted it at a price $10 higher than before - guess the price was adjusted upward after it was officially out of print. Anyway, when the Taylor CDs showed up, one was the correct disc, but instead of the other one he'd shipped a Sun Ra title instead. No problems sending it back for the right disc, although it did take a while and I had to email a follow-up inquiry before the replacement package arrived. First time I'd ever bought anything from him, despite being tempted by the big RCA Ellington set several years ago when Jazzloft was offering it at a very attractive discount (I ultimately wound up getting a nice used copy on ebay for just over $200 somewhat later :tup ).

As for Caiman, I've never had any problems with them over the course of several DVD and CD orders. I recently got several of the Free America series titles from them via Amazon Marketplace, and they arrived quickly.

There's a seller by the name of malnaenator that is a must to avoid. This joker sells Russian bootlegs. I bid on a Buckethead CD, won the auction, waited two weeks and didn't see anything. So I email him, and he replies that the disc is being shipped from 'Europe'(this clown is allegedly in NY). The disc shows up, postmarked Russia and is a bootleg, with Russian lettering in some parts and words misspelled. So I go back to him and tell him I want a refund, it's a bootleg, etc. He claims it is a 'reissue'. I also let him know I would report him to Ebay and I would check with Buckethead's label(ION Records) for any Russian reissues. Of course, there were no reissues by ION, so I reported him to Ebay, the RIAA, and ION. I got a refund, but I think this thief is still selling his junk on Ebay.

it does seem to be taking a while....

i seem to either have bad luck ebay-wise or am an idiot.

well i mean malenator does have 99.1 percent positive feedback so someone just glancing would not see a problem, right?

now reading the reviews i see that some of the positive people were not totally satisfied.

i guess people need to be meaner on ebay. really tear people a new a...hole in their feedback.

Akanalog,

When you finally receive the disc and you're sure it's a bootleg(it will be), complain like hell. Go to Paypal and let them know that you got a bootleg and you want a refund. Next, go to Ebay and report the listing as a bootleg. If you can contact the record label, do so and let the record label know about it - they may also contact Ebay and put some pressure on Ebay to boot this jerk.

ok, philly-the jerk sent the disc registered mail so i had to get it at the post office which pissed me off and means i will never buy from him again. so after two weeks of it sitting there i picked it up and it was ok. it is a japanese disc on an obscure label so honestly i don't know if it is legit-it looks sort of ok. however it did come from a russian address (his "russian warehouse" according to his email). but the fact it took so long and came from russia and was registered mail-screw maelenator.

as to jazzhut/cdloft or whatever-jazzloft/cdhut. the actual online store one was fine for me but the ebay one-i ordered 3 freaking discs and 2 weeks later asked where they were and he said he hadn't recieved a new shipment from europe yet. that's lame. i'm sorry but that's not how ebay is supposed to work. screw that guy too even though he was nice enough about giving me a refund.

This thread is confusing as hell!

akanalog, could you please do us a favor and *state* which seller you're complaining about in each post? At one point, I think you're complaining about CD Hut and the next it seems like maleanator... or is it jazzhut? It would be easier to follow your stream-of-consciousness posts if you stated which seller it was.

BTW, complaing because the seller ships registered mail strikes me as dumb. The seller ships registered mail to guarantee delivery of your CDs and you're unhappy? I suppose if the seller chose unregistered and it failed to show, you'd have a complaint for that too?

At this point, I still can't tell what happened to the eBay deal that started this whole thread. Did the 3 Black Saint CDs you ordered from CDHut arrive or not?

One last thing: what the hell is the reference to "japanese poor house company import reissue CDs" got to do with anything else in this thread??

As I said, this thread is confusing as hell.

sorry for muddling things, mr. breshneshehan....

cdhut and jazzloft are the same person. one is the ebay store and one is the www store.

i think using the www store seems to work better.

the ebay store is where imaginary things are listed.

after a few weeks i asked where my bs/sn discs, via the ebay store, were.

i was told that he hadn't recieved a new shipment from italy yet.

so at that point i asked for a refund and was given one in a few days.

i think someone else in the thread was for some reason inspired by my order to order a bs/sn disc himself, which also hasn't arrived to him.

however, i did at one point order a disc from the www store and it arrived promptly, so the guy isn't all bad.

his ebay store sucks and he doesn't actually have many of the items in stock, is the point. so screw him.

when talking about bad sellers, someone else in the thread then mentioned this maelenator who coincidentally, i had also ordered from and was waiting on a package from. he is the one who sent registered mail. registered mail means i need to travel to the post office and wait in line and hang on to that pink slip so i can get my mail. that is a pain the butt so screw that guy. the package also came from a russian address rather though the seller's ebay profile said he is in new york. so that package took longer than it should have since it was coming from europe! so screw him.

at this same time i was also dealing with having recieved japanese poor house mini LPs from a different store when i thought i was getting normal japanese imports. that guy was very nice and offered me a full refund, which i did not accept but i appreciate his kindness.

we are all using fake names. it is the internet! that is the fun. i assume everyone is using an alias unless i read about them off-computer(ie: chuck nessa, allen lowe....). so my assumption was that you were using a fake name. sorry if that was not the case. so since they are fake names, i generally feel OK taking liberties to sort of celebrate the irreality of it all. sorry again.

It was from CD Hut, not the Russian guy; after reading of your experiences there, that one is definitely on my "ignore" list!
