I bought this LP years ago--the front cover is white, with "The Hampton Hawes Jazz Trio" in black letters, nothing else on the front cover. The back cover is also white, with the names of the songs, and a Hampton Hawes quote: "Every tune on this recording is a first take, we didn't plan it that way--it just happened." All songs except "The Look of Love" are Hawes originals. Recorded at Vault Recording Studios, Hollywood Calif.

This is probably my favorite Hampton Hawes recording. It is great.

I also have the Fresh Sound CD reissue, which has a bit more information.

You might try contacting the www.jazzrecordcenter.com (the Jazz Record Center in New York). They usually seem to have more Fresh Sounds releases in stock than I typically see elsewhere.

The Fresh Sound CD is still in print, and sounds fine

I once had a Vault double LP with both albums, but the pressing was not too good, so I sold it when the CDs came out on Fresh Sound.

Thanks. I live in NY so I checked JRC but no.

I had the cd but the sound sucks, too closed in, cheap transfer, like Fresh Sound used to do...now they do great job, but I doubt it's worth remastering this for them.

THANKS! I've been looking on ebay under High In The Sky. I MIGHT get this although I don't know what the other LP is...have to look it up.

Got this in Fopp for £3.00 quite recently on CD. Sound is a little hissy and flat but perfectly serviceable.

I think latter period HH is generally under-rated. It's very different compared with his 50s output and not as instantly engaging but still more than a little interesting.

Strange - I'm critical about flat remasters but this sounds fine to my ears, and certainly better than the double LP - the second LP is indeed the Movie Musicals with Billy Byers' string arrangements.

Not much high end to the Fresh Sound cd...a fault of the way they transferred to cd in those days...i remembre the first Japanese cds of BN etc...same problem.
