Rooster_Ties Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Go HERE, and click on the sample (RealPlayer) of the very last tune (track 25), called "Time Races With Emit". The sample is the entire tune (only 22-seconds long), as it was originally recorded. Programmed on the disc after a lilting ballad (the Koehler-Arlen tune "When the Sun Comes Out"), "Time Races With Emit" smacked me upside the head like nothing I've probably heard since I heard Larry Young's "Mother Ship" for the first time, sometime in early 2002. Yeow!!!! Quote

Guest ariceffron Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 The greatest 22 sec song is "Gluing Carpet to your Genitals does not make you a Cantelope" by the LOCUST Quote
mgraham333 Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Rooster, are you sure the sheet music didn't just fall to the floor and the musician continued to play I have to admit I'm not all that familiar with RRK, but based on the other sound clips I may have to check this one out. Quote
dave9199 Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 How about these songs from The Descendents: All :01 (I bought this just to hear what a one second song sounds like) No All :02 Weinersnitzel :09 I Like Food :15 Quote
AfricaBrass Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I'm not sure how long this song actually is. I know it might be around the 22 second length. My nominee for the greatest is: The theme from the tv show Fat Albert. It is one of my favorite songs EVER! The bass kills me. :rsmile: Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 The title is on the most recent Verve Master Edition remastering of "Domino", that came out in 2000. You are correct that it was previously known as "Ad Lib". However the booklet that accompanies the VME statues that this was "erroneously issued as 'Ad Lib' ". Impressive players on that tune - RRK, Herbie Hancock, Vernon Martin, and Roy Haynes. Quote

Noj Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 (edited) R_T: get RRK's three sided dream in audio color, make sure it's the single disk version. Now, THAT last track is a serious mindphuck for the patient person. Just downright SCARY. BTW, this "Time Races With Emit," it used to be called "Ad Lib" right? Where did the new&improved title come from? couw, what is the difference between the single disk "3-Sided Dream" and the two-fer with the Yusef Lateef disc? How 'bout Bootsy's "Preview Side Too" Those 22 seconds from Rahsaan weren't doing much for me, RT, I imagine it will require repeated listening. A lot of Rahsaan's stuff has been like that for me--he loses me at first, but after repeated listens it makes more sense. Edited August 6, 2003 by Noj Quote

Noj Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 (edited) Thanks RC, Not sure about "Side Four", but there is a hidden track on the two-fer disk that is a telephone conversation between Rahsaan and a lady. Edited August 6, 2003 by Noj Quote
rockefeller center Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I am a dork. Track #20 is "Conversation" which is also on Separate But Equal: The Case of the 3 Sided Dream in Audio Color/Part of the Search. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Thanks rockefeller center! :rsmile: Quote
rockefeller center Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Most of it is silence and you never know WHEN it's gonna hit you. After a long, long wait there's this loud eerie laughter, then again silence. After another wait you get what's called Telephone Conversation. #21. 00:00-08:03 silence 08:03-08:28 laughter 08:28-11:16 silence 11:16-12:39 telephone conversation Is this identical with the LP release? If not, I might have to get it to hear more silence. Quote
