Big Wheel Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 (edited) I'm just now opening a few CDs I picked up back in May at J&R when I went to NYC. It rained the whole time I was there, and J&R doesn't use durable plastic bags to take home CDs - they use paper and wrap everything on the spot, and staple your receipt to the big paper-wrapped stack. So at some point the paper did get pretty soaked. But none of the 7 discs I bought seem to have been the worse for wear - that is, until I opened Miles's My Funny Valentine today. It's a total mess - the booklet is all warped and damp and its staples are rusted. Also, some of the booklet is stuck to the actual CD. Is it possible that water could have penetrated the shrink wrap? And how do I get all that crap off the CD without ruining it? Edited July 29, 2006 by Big Wheel Quote

And how do I get all that crap off the CD without ruining it? ..not sure how to repair it but I'm almost 100% positive the plastic wrap is not waterproof. When I was in nyc in May, I'm sure they put my cds in a plastic bag....not that it matters at this point. m~ Quote
Brad Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 I assumed the shrink wrap they put on new cd was water impermeable although I never put it to the test. Quote
7/4 Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Maybe we should buy some Kenny G at the quick mart and submerge them. Quote
Aggie87 Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Better yet, let's get right to the source, and submerge G himself... Quote

jazzbo Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 I wouldn't have assumed factory shrink was waterproof. Seams look too weak to me. Some of the store or business shrink pockets would be a bit better. . . you know it's basically a full pocket with a flap to seal. But I wouldn't want to submerge even these for any dozen microseconds. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 I wouldn't try it (notwithstanding the Kenny G thing)--guess I'm a little two wary of those tiny little perforations--not always visible--on the edges of the shrink... Quote
