Kreilly Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Part of Merkin Hall's Reissue: Classic Recordings Live series Andrew Hill Octet: The Music of Passing Ships Tuesday November 14, 2006 at 8PM “The best jazz album of 2003 was recorded in 1969—then shelved, lost, forgotten, rediscovered and finally released 34 years later,” says The New York Times. The reference is to Andrew Hill’s mysterious Blue Note release Passing Ships, an album quickly hailed by jazz critics as a masterpiece. Now in 2006, the music from Andrew Hill’s early octet comes alive on the stage of Merkin Concert Hall. Hill opens the concert with his trio. Hosted by Michael Cuscuna. Reserved seating Single Tickets: Advance: $30 Day of: $35 Quote
bertrand Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Is Hill leading the octet as well? Bertrand. Quote
ep1str0phy Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 If he is leading the large ensemble, there's always the possibility of new releases--seems like something he does, anyway. -But--he'll be showing up for the SF Jazz Festival pretty soon (I think that Nels Cline group is popping up, too). I'm very much there. Quote
sal Posted August 4, 2006 Report Posted August 4, 2006 I'm very jealous. Along with Paul Motian, Andrew is the artist I want to see perform before I die. As far as I know, as long as I've been into jazz (about 8 years or so) he hasn't performed in Chicago, which surprises me, becuase he's originally from here. Quote

He's been at the Jazz Showcase at least twice in that time, and I went once. He'll probably be back there pretty soon. It's the main place he plays when in Chicago. Eric Quote

I didn't go to the Showcase until around 2001. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Quote
