Head Man
Does anyone know why so few of these records have ever been re-issued on CD? I'm thinking particularly of two Woody Shaw albums - 'Master of the Art' & 'Night Music' plus one by Chico Freeman - 'Tradition in Transition' which I have on vinyl and would like to replace. The two Woody Shaw's were produced by Michael Cuscuna and I know he was very fond of Woody so I presume there must be a good reason why these have never seen the light of day. I seem to recall that a couple of Bill Evans' - 'Edition One & Two' were re-released a few years ago on Elektra so I presume someone must still have some master tapes. Eric
Blue Note put out the Evans records. The Hubbard, Gordon and Powell have also come out on different labels. I think the Sphere records have too. I would also love to see the Shaw. Edited August 24, 2006 by Eric
Claude
The Bill Evans discs are on Warner CDs, at least in Europe. Other albums which were reissued on CD are: - Charlie Parker: One Night In Washington (Blue Note, expanded) - John McLaughlin: My Goals Beyond (Rykodisc) - Steps Ahead: Steps Ahead (Elektra) Collectables has recently reissued some of the Elektra sessions These three were available on Nonesuch CDs: - Julius Hemphill: Big Band - Bill Frisell: Before We Were Born - World Saxophone Quartet: Rhythm & Blues This is all from memory, please correct me if I'm wrong. And the Griffith Park material. And the first Chico Freeman (did not like the second). Now that I think about it, the Tyner session has come out on Collectables as well. I am pretty sure that both the Jimmy Smiths are out too - one just recently on Wounded Bird. Edited August 24, 2006 by Eric
