  1. I had most of these on vinyl and bought this set anyway. Lovely music ...
  2. Perhaps ...? https://www.linkedin.com/in/mariejosevanderlaan/
  3. Looks like the same photo as his album on Timeless with the Tone Jansa Quartet. Maybe makes sense given the Timeless connection discussed above. I also like the looks of it, like the bluish tint.
  4. I second that, i.e., a good way to search CD Japan for this series and others. I have never quite figured it out.
  5. Seller was Jazz Record Center in NY. They seem to get the best of the very best, not that I am ever a bidder. Fun to see some of these nicer copies.
  6. I need to make a point to listen - this looks fantastic - thanks for posting.
  7. Looking at the release calendar, Caravan came out in 1962, Ugetsu in 1963, but this one not until 1966. Maybe due to the demise of Riverside, maybe lost in the shuffle, lack of critical exposure, etc.? For me, both Kyoto and Ugetsu rank about Caravan.
  8. Most of the popular titles are in print in the Classic series which runs concurrently with the Tone Poet series. So best of both worlds, I think.
  9. 👍 I have his other two on Delmark, but like this one the best.
  10. Track 6, "Try To, If You Can" (this is from the Rich Corpolongo CD, "Just Found Joy" on Delmark)
  11. I rather prefer it this way. I don't need yet another super-duper version of Moanin' or The Sidewinder. But Katanga (Curtis Amy) or Dance With Death (Andrew Hill), bring it on. They are doing a number of the Japan-first, Rainbow-later titles with cool artwork.
  12. Eric Track: Not sure how I originally stumbled on to this, maybe because it is on Delmark. I have always loved this lp, it has juice. He is a Chicago guy and still on the scene, I believe. https://www.discogs.com/release/4012886-The-Rich-Corpolongo-Quartet-Plus-Two-Just-Found-Joy
  13. Thanks for all the critical analysis Gheorghe. I am curious as to what post-1958 Bud you find interesting.
  14. Pulled out the Ron Carter "Where" session last weekend. Not an everyday listen, but for the most part, I enjoyed it.
  15. Interesting article, he really strikes me as a great guy to be running the label. I like many of the young artists on their roster. The reissues are pretty cool too - the Tone Poets in particular are gorgeous and the are doing some obscure titles this year, which is fun.
  16. Yes, yes yes! Recently been digging The Scene Changes (BN) and Bud Powell in Paris (Reprise). Swinging, fun albums and a bunch of his compositions on the former.
  17. Anyone experiencing these? Unless I am connected to my Wifi network (Google Fiber), my phone is basically worthless. I am also having authentication issues with work, so zero communication with the office. I live in the Kansas City metro area. In a throw-back move, I turned on AM radio and the sports talk guys are all talking about it.
  18. Agree 100% - it really is a shame.
  19. Could not agree more. Here is a dream reissue - Acoustic Sounds releases the Complete Africa/Brass in the Acoustic Sounds Series. Way too radical for that series, unfortunately.
  20. Yes, freely admitting my previous impatience and look forward to digging into these as well.
  21. So I have owned both of these forever, but never given either much of a chance. Perhaps I have never warmed fully to the long-ish opening tracks of each. But for whatever reason, I listened to both other the weekend, focusing on the other tracks, including the unissued stuff from both. Wow - what a discovery for me. Lots and lots of great music and playing, by basically the same group. Looking at Coltrane's discography, I discovered the two records were both made in May 1961, more/less contemporaneously. I am just on cloud nine, even made a playlist that begins with some of the unreleased songs, To Her Ladyship, Song of the Underground Railroad and The Damned Don't Cry. So curious what others think!
  22. In for Cannonball as well. I will probably go for the McDuff, esp if there are sound samples on Bandcamp. I love the artwork on the cover. Yeah I am a sucker for that stuff 😂
