(BB) Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I have been seeing these around lately. Was this a distribution deal between Clef and Columbia for the original releases, or was this a re-issue program? Thanks, Bill Quote
Jim R Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I had one of those years ago (can't remember what title), and I thought it was vintage (a distribution deal done around the time of the original release). Don't know for sure, though... Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 (edited) I have a number of those - they are 1950s pressings. UK Columbia was an imprint of EMI that lasted through to around 1970. The Columbia/Clefs were Clef/Verve recordings issued under licence around the same time as (or just slightly later than) the originals. Other EMI imprints of the time were HMV and Parlophone. I have several of the Dizzy Gillespie Verves on this imprint. Edited September 1, 2006 by sidewinder Quote
Clunky Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I've few of these too. Johhny Hodges sessions, nice pressings, heavy vinyl. ....luvely ... Quote
sidewinder Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Indeed Clunky - they can sound quite nice. From about 1962/63 onwards I think, Verve UK started issuing the Clef/Verve material on the standard Verve imprint. They look pretty much like the US Verves from here-on. Quote
