clifford_thornton Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Yeah, it is great. I had a dub of the dub(!) but am glad to have a nice CD copy of it. Strange, strange record and Monnette Sudler is particularly hip. Quote

Strange, strange record and Monnette Sudler is particularly hip. Saw her live in Philly a lot of years ago at the Ethical Societ (have never seen Jamal live, even though he's Philly-based and I'm a fan). My main memory is that she projected a whole lot of attitude from the bandstand. Quote
Chalupa Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 (edited) I've given this a couple of spins. Very good performance but the sound isn't the best - not terrible and most definitely listenable.... but it has a bootleg quality feel to it. The other thing is that I wish that when record companies put out cds that are needle drops that they would let you know up front. I would have still bought this anyway but, this is one case where I'd rather not be surprised. YMMV. It just so happens that I'm going to see Khan Jamal perform tomorrow night..... just a stone throw away from where this album was recorded. Khan Jamal/Grachan Moncur III Trio with Grachan Moncur III, trombone Khan Jamal, vibraphone Yahya Abdul-Majid, tenor saxophone University of Pennsylvania Houston Hall | Bodek Lounge 3417 Spruce Street Free Admission FWIW.... Monette Sudler still gigs around Philly. I haven't see her since she got out of jail but I hear her playing is better than ever. Edited September 25, 2006 by Chalupa Quote
