Guest akanalog Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 how is this kynard session? i see it is now available on CD, but it is a bit costly. is it a cut and dry session or do the musicians stretch out and get into something deeper? Quote
Soul Stream Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 how is this kynard session? i see it is now available on CD, but it is a bit costly. is it a cut and dry session or do the musicians stretch out and get into something deeper? I guess it all depends on how deep you're into Kynard. I'm a Kynard fan and have this CD and enjoy it. Good session. Is it one of the greatest organ sessions ever? Probably not, but a good strong date. I wouldn't consider it a session where the musicians are really stretching beyone the usual soul-jazz boundaries. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 thanks. yeah i dunno i thought maybe the trio format would lead to some further explorations of the tunes. or i have heard kynard throw in some electric piano to add some more sounds to the mix. guess not. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I think Soulstream is undervaluing this album. Charles' version of "Christo Redentor" is THE version. He's truly preaching on this one and this cut alone is worth the price - whatever the price. It's the TRUE melding of Soul Jazz and Gospel - even more than "Where it's at". MG Quote
andybleaden Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 its worth getting hold of if you can. there isn't enough of this collaboration around from this era in my opinion Quote
monkboughtlunch Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 The is a good one. It was recorded at RCA studios and the sound is very dry with no reverb, but the fidelity is quite good. The performances are very good too. Recommended for fans of Kynard's style. Quote
etherbored Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 for those interested in this session, be patient. it's coming out as a 1000 yen ($8.67) release on february 21st. that's cheap soul food, -e- Quote

But its issue sparks one crucial question: JUST WHAT ELSE IS COMING OUT ON 21 FEBRUARY?????? MG How do you make this size thing work? Edited December 4, 2006 by The Magnificent Goldberg Quote

But its issue sparks one crucial question: JUST WHAT ELSE IS COMING OUT ON 21 FEBRUARY?????? MG How do you make this size thing work? MG, There is a LOT of great soul jazz Prestige stuff scheduled for release 21 Feb (McDuff, Scott, Roach, Timmons etc). I expect you have most of it in some form, but I will be taking the opportunity to pick these up at a bargain price. Quote
