Not too long ago, I pulled my Christian set out for the first time in a while. I found that the portion of the discs that had been stuck in the styrofoam had drastically changed color, and that all four discs were unreadable. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think I have a shot at getting a replacement from the manufacturer? I probably tossed the receipt about two years ago.

As much as that Christian comes himself to bring them to your home

Another lousy packaging job from Sony/Columbia.

But the discs are aging without problems!

Hmm, I guess I'm just the lucky winner. I got the limited edition self-destructing version.

Call Sony customer service at the 800 number in the back of the booklet that came with the set. Sony will replace the discs. They did it for me. :tup

Really? That's great! Did you have the same problem?

When I first got the box, there was foam gunk on all of the discs, and 1 or 2 of them wouldn't play. I insisted that they replace all 4 of them, which they did. When you call the 800 number, they'll take all your information, and then send you a prepaid mailing label. You'll mail them the discs only (not the box or booklet), and they'll send you 4 brand-new discs.

The same thing happened when I opened mine. By this time I had been through the whole mailing Sony the discs and receiving the replacement discs scenario with my Louis Armstrong Complete Hot Five's set, so I was an old hand at the process.

In both cases I have kept the replacement CDs in the jewel cases they were sent in.

Like Sundog, I put my discs in normal holders as soon as I got the set (though in my case, dual-disc regular jewel cases.) That set had the sort of misconceived packaging that I just don't want to deal with. I file the booklet next to the jewel cases on my CD shelf.

I have also. My Charlie Christian CDs were gunked up right out of the box. What an incredibly stupid design.
