Shawn Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 The local post office (which is definitely dark ages) returned a batch of discs I had mailed out...for no reason that they can figure out. So I am re-sending them today. I apologize for the inconvenience, Shawn Quote
Big Al Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 (edited) Shawn ain't kidding: they really are in the dark ages. Shawn sent me a couple discs with a postmark of October 12 which didn't arrive to me until this past Monday (the 23rd)! I can walk from there faster; maybe that's what happened! Yep...needless to day I WON'T be using that particular location again. I'll drive the 5 miles into town... Quote
HolyStitt Posted October 27, 2006 Report Posted October 27, 2006 This has been the only problem I have ever had with the post office. I don't know how many times I have sent stuff out and I have come home a day or two later to find it sitting on my back steps. Quote
spinlps Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 The Young and Byrd/Adams boxes arrived this morning. Thanks! Quote

Since I work at the post office, but not behind the counter(City Carrier), why were the cd's returned in the first place? Insufficient postage? Just curious. Edited November 7, 2006 by Tom 1960 Quote
HolyStitt Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 This has been the only problem I have ever had with the post office. I don't know how many times I have sent stuff out and I have come home a day or two later to find it sitting on my back steps. Since I work at the post office, but not behind the counter(City Carrier), why were the cd's returned in the first place? Insufficient postage? Just curious. I never was able to get a straight answer from the branch about why it was happening. I would send the packages out, with all the postage weighed and placed on the packages by the clerk. I would leave the branch thinking everything was cool and then a couple of days later I would come home to find a few of the packages on my back steps. I would bring those packages back, talk to the branch manager, and then everything would be OK. Maybe I pissed off one of the clerks at that branch because I have NEVER had the problem at any other branch and it only seemed to happen around Christmas. Quote
HolyStitt Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Just a disclaimer: Other then the SNAFU listed above, I have always been very happy with their service and wouldn't think of using any other service. Also, I have the greatest mail carrier ever, who is nice enough to put my packages on my back steps for me. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Also, I have the greatest mail carrier ever, who is nice enough to put my packages on my back steps for me. Is this code? Quote
HolyStitt Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Nope, just the facts, jack. Instead of having me take time off from work to go to the post office to pick up the packages he couldn't leave in the mailbox, he leaves them on the back steps. The other USPS carrier I had would not do this. Quote

Free For All Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 In my new "bachelor pad" ( ) I haved a shared front door and a mail slot that will only accept single-CD packages, so I put a note on the door requesting that packages be deposited at the back door (my private door) which happens to be up one flight of stairs. Well, UPS and FEDEX didn't flinch and left the packages by the back door as requested. OTOH, USPS left a snotty note to the effect of "we don't do stairs or back doors". But they will leave a notice for you that they couldn't (or wouldn't) deliver the package, but you can go pick it up at the PO. Yippee. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 (edited) I hear what you're saying. Sometimes I think the P.O. is too rigid and needs to more accommodative of there customers. In your case, you now have more of a an incentive to use other carriers instead of the Post Office. We in turn lose out on your future business. Stupid stuff. Randy Twizzle Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I lived in an apartment that had a mail slot on the front door. After years of having the mail pushed all the way in to my apartment the mailman started sticking the mail half in and half out of the slot. This greatly increased the risk of someone coming along and stealing my mail. When I called the post office to complain, after my note to the mailmanwas ignored, the local supervisor told me that many people in my area had dogs and that the mailman was probably leery of getting bitten if he pushed the mail all the way in. I told her that was the stupidest excuse I've ever heard and she hung up on me. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 (edited) It's true though. I have a dog on the route who will immediately grab the mail once I begin to place it through the slot. He's pretty harmless though and I usually have a good laugh. Edited November 9, 2006 by Tom 1960 Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Well even if it's true I don't understand why opening the slot and wedging the mail in it was any safer than opening the slot and quickly pushing the mail all the way through. Quote
