GA Russell Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 BC, Calgary looks to be improving over the off-season, don't they? ***** With the first pick of the draft today, the Ticats picked a receiver to replace DJ Flick, Chris Bauman. The Stampeders had three of the first six picks! http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home ***** The NFL's Roger Goodell has called a meeting of each team's doctors and trainers to discuss concussions. All players will be required to take a brain test before the 2007 season begins which will establish a baseline to determine how their brain activity has changed after a concussion. I would like to see the CFL do something about this too. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home Quote
Indestructible! Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 (edited) BC, Calgary looks to be improving over the off-season, don't they? ***** Hi GA, Man, I've been way too swamped these past few months to get the latest CFL news, so this thread has been great! I've just read the past four pages or so... thanks for all the updates! The Stamps do look like they've grabbed a few nice acquisitions this off-season. We'll see how they pan out, but I don't mind the pick up of Akili Smith... and anytime you can get a guy named GROOTEGOED on your team, well... that's just good karma! I'll be heading back to Calgary to see my family in a couple of months... I'll be cheering for: My dad'll be cheering for: My mom'll be cheering for: And my sister'll be cheering for: We are one dysfunctional family, I know! Westerners for sure, though! And thanks again for the Art Blakey CD... it is a good 'un! Cheers, Shane Edited May 2, 2007 by Indestructible! Quote
GA Russell Posted May 14, 2007 Author Report Posted May 14, 2007 Malcom Frank retired last week. I always liked him. He quietly did his job well. I don't expect that he will be elected to the Hall of Fame, but he was a good one. I saw him play for the San Antonio Texans against the Birmingham Barracudas in 1995. I assume that this is another example of the Eskimos dumping their old players. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edm...165807-sun.html ***** In Saturday's Raleigh News & Observer, there was an article about Ricky Williams' failing a drug test last month. Above it there was a 5.5"x5.5" color photo from last year of Williams talking on the sideline with John Avery. The Argos logo on Avery's sleeve was a little out of focus, but the CFL logo on Williams' collar was perfectly in focus. Of course, I don't expect the typical reader to look that closely at the picture, but the true sports fan might have noticed that Williams was wearing the double blue uniform not found in the NFL, and then looked more closely to see the "CFL". GA Russell Posted May 18, 2007 Author Report Posted May 18, 2007 The Argos signed Michael Bishop through 2009 today. That means that they will have coming into camp this year five quarterbacks: Damon Allen and four with NFL experience. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Tor...4188702-cp.html ***** The last of the original three groups to bid for an Ottawa expansion franchise has dropped out. The league says that it is holding discussions with other parties. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Ott...4182206-cp.html Quote
GA Russell Posted May 23, 2007 Author Report Posted May 23, 2007 Kansas City traded Lawrence Tynes to the New York Giants for an undisclosed conditional draft pick yesterday. Quote

He's got so much potential, but it's never really blossomed. I'm not sure what the trouble is but he should be better than he has been thus far. So many talented American QB's have a tough time adjusting to the Canadian game. But this year I see a reversal of roles. I think Bishop will start and Allen will come off the bench when needed. That could be a good combination - Bishop with his speed and his bombs, and the slow as molasses Allen with his smarts and short dump-off passes. It could be tough on opposing defenses. Quote
GA Russell Posted May 25, 2007 Author Report Posted May 25, 2007 Here's a good pre-season look at the Als, discussing their personnel changes: http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Mon...4205577-cp.html Quote
GA Russell Posted May 28, 2007 Author Report Posted May 28, 2007 Signor Mobley retired last week. It's a real housecleaning for the Eskimos. He didn't want to play for another team. Do you think he has a chance to be elected to the Hall of Fame? http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edm...4208175-cp.html ***** Training camps open next week, so I suppose that it is time to close this Hot Stove League thread and start a new one for the season. Let's go here to continue the discussion: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34428 Quote
