B. Goren. Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 This is probably one of the best live recordings I've recently listened to. It is amazing how Grimes re-emerged after such a long time he stayed away from music. The music is beautiful and the solo playing of each of the musicians is very impressive. Murray is amazing when he plays "Flowers for Albert". Quote
kh1958 Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 Sounds interesting. Know any good sources for this label? (The CD is $28 on amazon.com.) Quote
ghost of miles Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 You can find other recent Grimes-related releases on his website. Quote
kh1958 Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 The Don Cherry tribute concert at Merkin Hall, with the Dave Douglas Quartet (Henry Grimes, Andrew Cyrille and J.T. Brown) and the Roy Campbell Quartet (Lee Rozie, William Parker, and Hamid Drake), performing separately and as a double quartet, was the best concert I saw this year. Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted November 25, 2006 Report Posted November 25, 2006 I am recording Henry with Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry for Fresh Sound...should be out in March. Quote

JohnS Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Wonderful record. Best source is direct from Ayler Records. Quick and reasonably priced. Quote
Clunky Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I am recording Henry with Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry for Fresh Sound...should be out in March. Holy, holy...I love all these guys. Bill McHenry is a great player. He was storming this summer with "Hormigas". Quote

My apologies to J.D. Allen, the tenor player (not J.T. Brown, who was Elmore James' saxophonist). Edited November 27, 2006 by kh1958 Quote

PHILLYQ Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 You can get it direct from Ayler Records. I've bought a few things from them and they do a great job, quick shipping, etc. You're also helping to support a good label that puts out music that needs to be heard. http://www.ayler.com/ Quote
Bol Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I am recording Henry with Andrew Cyrille and Bill McHenry for Fresh Sound...should be out in March. Wow!! That's great. I'm a big McHenry fan. Those other guys are pretty good too. Quote
RDK Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 Bumping this to add that there's a tremendously fine torrent on Dime right now of Grimes' "Spaceship on the Runway Quartet" as broadcast from Stockholm on 11/14/06. With Fred Anderson, Marshall Allen, and Avreeayl Ra. Highly recommended! Quote

Guest youmustbe Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Sitting on the couch in the control room, getting up to tell the musicians that they should do another take, watching the clock, writing checks...it's called Producing! A time honored tradition, about to disappear!!!! Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 And oh yeah, Managing! Now that will NEVER disappear! 'No you can't fly Business Class' Quote
