Durium Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 PIET NOORDIJK Piet Noordijk, alto saxophonist, is one of the best European alto saxophone players, maybe even the best. He is a follower and a great fan of Charlie Parker. His recording Piet Plays Bird was a remarkable project in which he remade the Charlie Parker with String recordings. He has been the leading alto-saxophonist in the Dutch Metropole Orchestra for years and is now retired, although still very active. His last project is called Pete's Groove in which he plays the soul music of Cannonball Adderley. Some recordings: Piet Plays Bird (1997) Piet Noordijk quartet - Live ( 1988) Pete's Groove ( 2003) You can find more info in my Keep swinging web log. Keep swinging Durium Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I only know his work from the Misha Mengelberg Kwartet (ca. '64-'66), but enjoy his playing on those LPs. The VaraJazz set from '88 looks like it has potential also. Thanks for the reminder! Quote

The VaraJazz set from '88 looks like it has potential also. Thanks for the reminder! He is a great alto player although it seems his fame is only limited to The Netherlands (and some places in Texas ) I guess. It's a shame Keep swinging Durium Edited December 2, 2006 by Durium Quote
