Grachan Moncur III - The Stone 12/13

I'm 98% sure I'm going up to NYC on 12/13 to catch Grachan Moncur III at the Stone. He's got James Spaulding and Michael Blake. If it 's like the gig I saw at the Iridium in April (see post elsewhere - no time to search), it should be killer.

Anyone else thinking of going? We could hook up before for dinner.

it doesn't look like it will be similar to the iridium gigs.

i wish i had gone to the iridium gigs (with piano and e-piano, no?). sounded cool. probably would have been my one jazz gig to attend in the 21st century.

or am i reading this stone stuff wrong. it sounds like it is trombone and two saxes and that's it.

I really love Grachan's albums on BN and BYG as well as his work w/ Jackie Mac BUT.... I have to say that I was VERY disappointed w/ his performance when I saw him here back in September. He was co-leading a trio w/ Khan Jamal and Yahya Abdul-Majid(Sun Ra Arkrstra). He barely played at all and when he did I could barely hear him and I was sitting not more than 25 feet from him. He didn't take any solos(at least none that I can remember) and was not really participating in the music. I dunno maybe he had a bad night or was pissed at something but he seemed to be so absent from the night's proceedings that I wonder if there is something else troubling him.
