Rooster_Ties Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) Same kinda thing as the quite similar Chick and Herbie threads... And if there aren't any (or many) on McCoy sidemen dates (or McCoy tunes on other McCoy-less dates), why not?? (I sure can't think of any such tunes right off the top of my head, at least not like I could with Chick and Herbie.) (And don't worry, I'm not gonna start one of these for Andrew Hill. That'd be a one post thread -- "Rumproller"!! ) Edited December 12, 2006 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted December 12, 2006 Author Report Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) I guess the answer is that as good as many of McCoy's leader-dates were, there were less actual McCoy penned tunes that really were strong enough to really achieve "quazi-standard" status. Come to think of it, I'm having a tough time thinking of very many remakes / covers of McCoy tunes (from any decade, actually). And most of McCoy's various "greatest hits" type releases are padded with two or three non-McCoy tunes too. (Yeah, that's cuz it's so tempting to put McCoy's versions of Contrane tunes on there, but that's not the only reason -- cuz there's a non-McCoy standard on one or two of those comps too.) Rooster_Ties Posted December 13, 2006 Author Report Posted December 13, 2006 John Patton covered "Man From Tanganyika" in 1969. Oh yeah -- forgot about that one. Are there really no other McCoy tunes on any other 60's BN albums (besides McCoy's own leader-dates, and Patton's "Man From Tanganyika") ???? Quote
