So what does Rod Stewart have to do with either jazz or the heritage of New Orleans?

You mean as contrasted with Ludacris and ZZ Top?

Ludacris and ZZ Top are both from the south, so I guess... I don't know... but Rod Stewart!?!?

:bad:

The one and only time I saw James Brown was at the New Orleans Jazz AND HERITAGE Festival...lots of blues, swamp boogie, stank finger guitar, gospel groups -- this melange of music and sounds with a strong jazz flava running through it. Duck weed with a twist there, Gates, and gotta match? Stayin' at the Ho Jo's in N.O. Julip's up, Sam. See you after the 100. Degrees if you please.

It's not really a jazz festival, the organizers know it. But it's got some 'cache' to call it a jazz festival. And people (who aren't jazz fans) who think they're too old to go to rock concerts can attend this and feel alright about it. It's for the people who used to go to keg parties, but now that they've gotten older and more responsible, they like to go to wine tastings instead.

That's one thought, anyway.

Yes, 'JAZZ" is by now a generic name...I don't have any problem with the lineup, it is what it is. It's just that it's always be funny to me how people who could give a shit about actual 'Jazz', will go to a 'Jazz Festival', even though there is almost no 'Jazz' on the prgram, even if we stretch the boundries.

It's like the new Reebok shoe I saw, 'The Rebopper'!!! Bird's first records were under the name Charlie Parker and his Re Boppers' I believe. So yeah, it's like a brand name that conjures up whatever, even though that whatever has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual music.

Man, I saw Sammy Price and Doc Cheatham in a quintet or even sextet at the race track where they have the festival there in New Orleans, and later met Danny Barker at Snug Harbor...good times, good times.....
