jostber Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hi, The U.K. label Cherry Red, which also has the Five Four Label, will soon release two very interesting CD's by Lennie Tristano and Sun Ra: Lennie Tristano - Abstraction & improvisation http://www.cherryred.co.uk/fivefour/produc...play=FIVEFOUR18 This has a great track selection, including "Descent into the Maelstrom", one of the first free jazz classics and a monumental work, which long has been out of print. Sun Ra - Toward the stars http://www.amazon.co.uk/Towards-Stars-Sun-...TF8&s=music Recordings from the 50's. A couple of books on these artists will also be released this spring: Lennie Tristano - His life in music http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lennie-Tristano-Li...TF8&s=books Sun Ra - Pathways to unknown worlds http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pathways-Worlds-Ch...TF8&s=books - Jostein Quote
jazzbo Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Hmmm. . . more stuff that I wish came out here (the Tristano) from the sanctioned rather than there. I've already got the Ra book. Interesting. I wouldn't say essential, but interesting. I haven't "read it" yet (there's a lot of artwork, not a lot of text). Quote

randyhersom Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 (edited) Anything from the 50's in order to meet US copyright laws must be licensed from the intellectual property owners. The period of protection is 75 years rather than 50 and entertainment moguls are lobbying heavily for an even longer period. Edited February 14, 2007 by randyhersom Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 And that way Lennie's family gets some money. You got a problem with that? Quote
