Yes he was but FIRST buy An Unsung Cat by Safford Chamberlain - not great, but honest. It is much drier, but truthfull. I was intrigued by the Cornelius book but was spoiled by knowing facts when he has the "Marsh character" saying things he would have never said. It is hard to take something seriously while knowing other things. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 If you search for info on the author, I believe the following is true. He never heard of Warne while Mr. Marsh was alive. He heard a numbers of stories from a couple of self proclaimed "insiders". He decided there was a book in this story. From my perspective with "limited contact" with Warne, much of the book is speculation and third hand stories. I suspect one of the sources for the "semi-fiction" from a story about an event where I was a major player. As I said, he gets some stuff right but enough is "out in left field" to ruin the good stuff. Quote

BUT the author loves and understands the music... and he can write... the descriptions of actual playing on pages 146- 8 are remarkable. Hype does not apply here. Q Quote
