$44 for the 2 Dupree Bolton / Earl Anderza cuts.

I hope the rest is "good" - I've never heard it.

Considering that the Bolton/Anderza has no real connection to this music, your comment almost makes me wonder if Michael was just looking for a Select project that he could stick these two in, and came up with this one, but I think its great that Michael chose such a set for a Select, given that they usually pick a set of LPs that actually saw release. With only two issued albums, this wouldn't even be a possibility as a Select without knowing that there are 29 worthy but unissued tunes to include.

WELL, no need to spend all that money for these two Bolton/Anderza tracks. Uptown is going to issue a Dupree Bolton cd including these two tracks (licensed from EMI). It will be interesting to see which package hits the market first. I think MC might have thrown these on the Select after Uptown "flagged" 'em.

Well, alright then, let's shift the focus to this upcoming project:

Mosaic Select: Onzy Matthews (3 CDs)

The brilliant West Coast arranger Onzy Matthews was a master of the blues in many hues. He contributed to important recordings by Lou Rawls, Ray Charles and Esther Phillips and made two albums for Capitol, the first of which “Blues With A Touch Of Elegance” is considered by many to be a big band masterpiece. This set collects those albums plus 29 previously unissued Capitol tracks by Matthews. These big band sessions include soloists Sonny Criss, Gabe Baltazar, Curtis Amy, Clifford Scott, Dupree Bolton, Bobby Bryant, Bud Brisbois, Lou Blackburn, Ray Crawford and Richard Groove Holmes. An added bonus is the legendary, previously unissued two-tune session by Earl Anderza and Dupree Bolton for Pacific Jazz.

Hel-LO....

The Onzy Matthews sound samples are up on the Mosaic site and they sound very good to me. Along the lines of Gerald Wilson and Oliver Nelson...I can never get enough of that big band style. When news of this set first came out, it was like Ozzie who? But now..hey, looking at the discography and listening to the samples, I'm really looking forward to this set.

Great news, Chuck! Somehow I missed your April post... will be buying the Uptown for sure (and the Select as well).
