He (Lee) doesn't play on Popi so a useless discussion.

Yeah he does, but no solo. Several flugels a la Tijuana Brass. It's a piece of trash, the theme to another UA movie, see IMDB. (There's a reason for this repertoire choice - and there's a book you should read ...).

Interesting. Between the first and second editions of the BN discography, Lee was dropped from the line-up for this track. I never asked MC about this, but since he actually made the change, I'm guessing he had some evidence.

Bluerein,

Was you response based on the second edition, or something you discussed with Michael?

Tom,

Are you sure it is Lee you are hearing, or perhaps Collins or Shepley? I've heard this once - I agree it's trash.

i would like to see that book, but seattle has no bookstore zoned in my frequented neighborhoods and theres no way im busting my balls going into downton to Borders or barnes/noble. does the book talk about how they made lee do the UA songs cause BN was owned by them or sometjing? also really want to see the 2 new sun ra poetry books- havent got a chance on those yet too

I had heard it before Lee was removed from the personnel listing, and I remember thinking he was pretty much inaudible on 'Popi', so I was not shocked when we was removed in later editions. If I remember correctly (I have a burn of this somewhere), I think you are describing the A-side. I remember thinking Lee as definitely audible (but not inspired) on that.

It's amusing that Cuscuna never tried to tack this onto a Morgan BN CD as a bonus track. "Midnight Cowboy' is on a 'Blue Note at the Movies' compilation, probably long OOP.
