Edward Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 (edited) I have listened to Side B of Record 5 on my set as well as a buddy's, and both copies skip at the transition between track #1 (an announcement) and track #2. There is no visible defect on either copy of the LP. Both sets in question were numbered in the 700's. It is an annoyance more than anything, as the skip precedes the start of the group's performance. There is also little that can be done at this point as Mosaic does not have available any partials for this set. I am curious, though, whether others' sets have this defect and whether this defect is confined to the last or latter pressings. Thanks! Edited June 22, 2007 by Edward Quote
ASNL77 Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Nothing wrong with my copy. I purchased it about 6 months ago. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Just checked my Record 5 side B. No defect visible or audible. My copy is either 785 or 985 (can't decipher Cindy's writing ) and must have been one of the last copies - bought at (T-1) days. Quote
Ron S Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 can't decipher Cindy's writing Is Cindy the one who fills in those numbers? My understanding is that it's someone in shipping (the people truly in control of the world ), who merely fills in the number that's already printed on the invoice. Quote

You could be right - I had always assumed it was Cindy with the hand on the pen. Quote

porcy62 Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 (edited) Just checked, my copy is fine, # 0427. Did you clean it? Silly question i presume you're already done it. BTW The booklet reports that Mort Fega's indroduction is unissued, but I am sure I already knew it, maybe on the double Digitally Remastered Columbia cd. Am I wrong? Any other Fega's introduction of Miles? Edited June 23, 2007 by porcy62 Quote
Edward Posted June 23, 2007 Author Report Posted June 23, 2007 Thanks to all of you for checking your copies - I am glad that none of you seem to be encountering this problem. Cleaning has not corrected matters, and the fact that the backward skip occurs at exactly the same point on both copies of the record is disheartening. I am open to any and all suggestions. My friend and I each have a Goldring player (recommended on this board), and I, for one, have never had any problem before. Quote
porcy62 Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 You may try to increase the reading weight of your cartdride to the maximum reccomended, but if it's a pressing's defect, as it appears, I am clueless. On the Steve Hoffman Forum some vinyl nuts use a very thin and affilate blade with a strong light and a hand lens to do the job, the click remains but the skip is gone. Personally I wouldn't try it on my records. Quote
