NaturalSoul Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 I just got his LP "Makin' Out' off dustygroove for 13.99 + shipping. Unlike his other dates it's not a trio and includes a tenor player. I only have 'South side Soul'. Been meaning to get Nice 'N Tasty for a while but just haven't gotten around to it, also been meaning to get Mr.Soul. What other albums did he make for prestige? Did he make any albums for another label? what's your fav. John Wright album? Quote

So you had better not procrasinate much longer. Quote
kh1958 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 I checked in my Prestige discography, and he had five sessions as a leader--South Side Soul (Aug. 30, 1960); Nice N Tasty (Nov. 8, 1960); Makin' Out (June 23, 1961); Mr. Soul (April 10, 1962); The Last Amen (Dec. 19, 1961). Quote

Dan Gould Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 The Last Amen????? Is that a trio date?? Yes. Apparently pretty rare - I stumbled across a Japanese copy a couple of years ago. Quote
kh1958 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 I stumbled across another John Wright recording in the oldies.com Fantasy sale (it came in the mail today)--he plays piano on a blues album for Bluesville (OBC 593): The Blues of Arbee Stidham, Tired of Wandering. Also with King Curtis. Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 (edited) I checked in my Prestige discography, and he had five sessions as a leader--South Side Soul (Aug. 30, 1960); Nice N Tasty (Nov. 8, 1960); Makin' Out (June 23, 1961); Mr. Soul (April 10, 1962); The Last Amen (Dec. 19, 1961). Only two of those (South Side Soul and Mr Soul) have been reissued on (now OOP) Original Jazz Classics CDs. As kh1958 noted in post #2, they're available from sellers on Amazon.
