rostasi Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 (edited) http://tinyurl.com/38czss I'm of conflicting minds about this chap. Yes, his tunes for these shows had an unmistakable Hazelhurst stamp - I often found myself coming across a "new" British sitcom and could immediately tell that it was a Hazelhurst score - but, to me, it wasn't necessarily a good thing because they nearly always seemed steeped in a grand schmaltz and were often devoid of any depth - leaving me to wonder why the BBC continued to request music from this guy who always appeared to be decades behind other TV soundtrack creators. Maybe he was a lovable eccentric. Edited October 7, 2007 by rostasi Quote
sidewinder Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 A very talented tunesmith. Some of them just lodge in your brain and stay there forever. His music was omnipresent on the box in the 1970s during BBC's light entertainment so called 'golden era' and in many respects defined that era. OK - that Frank Spencer music was never a masterpiece but to put it together overnight on a budget shoestring with two picolos and using morse code of the title was quite nifty. Quote
