7/4 Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I've had a cold for eight days. I've tried everything - rest, Contact, fruit juice, vitamins...today is the first day my ears are relatively unblocked. Any one have any ideas for making this more bearable or even making it go away? Quote
sal Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Sorry to hear that. They seem affect people differently in different ways. I know that for me, I can usually kill a cold in two or three days if I do nothing but sleep, drink fruit or vegetable based drinks, and eat soup and bread (no going to work or doing anything physically or mentally draining). But this only works if you start this immediately upon feeling symptoms. Once its got you, not sure if there's anything you can do but wait it out... Quote
Guy Berger Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 David, the more you rest the quicker it will go. But these things vary, sometimes it will takes me up to two weeks before the cold is completely gone. Are you sure you don't have a sinus infection? I would see a doctor if you are not better in another week. Guy Quote

I think if I went to the doctor, they would just give me an anti-histamine. That would dry me up, except that I've been trying to do that with Contact. I'm laying off the Contact for today, in hopes that might change things. Quote

Normally that's true, but if you take massive doses of Vitamin C, take zinc and echinacea, soak in HOT water at least twice a day and of course drink plenty of fluids, you can easily cut that down to fourteen days. Fourteen days, eh? Cute... I've been taking zinc and echinacea. The Vitamin C is the next thing I try..... Quote

sidewinder Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Can't beat lots of rest, fluids and good, regular meals. Just recovering at home myself, after a weekend that was wrecked by a bad cold. You know it is bad when even listening to Mosaics becomes a real effort ! Quote
7/4 Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 I've been doing much better, although today the nose is running again. At least my brain is working a bit better now than the last week or so. So that was a 9-10 day cold. Quote
