to me it sounds a bit like a 70's pop song, but I don't know which one....

Listening yet again, it almost songs Beatles-ish. I assume that is the only part of the song that sounds like that????

Ive defintely heard it before and am thinking along the lines of a 70s TV show theme song. But I was unsuccesful in pinning it down, so I'm probably wrong.

That's my thinking as well. It almost sounds like it could be "walking around" music from one of the Peanuts specials.
