Morganized Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Great supporting cast..I wonder what the sound is like? I would be interested to learn about this one as well. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Great supporting cast.. Indeed. I didn't give a shit about Getz until I heard "Ginza Samba." Quote
Peter Friedman Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I am currently playing my copy of this CD. Hadn't heard it in a while and wanted to be sure to listen again before commenting on the audio quality. Am pleased to report that the sound is very good. I have heard some Getz material recorded in jazz clubs from the 1950s that had poor sound quality. It is unlikely that anyone will be disappointed with the audio quality on either of the two Carnegie Hall concerts represented on this CD. If you like these musicians, don't hesitate to get a copy of this one. Quote

BruceH Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Great supporting cast.. Indeed. Though Frank Isola has always reminded me of Ed McBain for some reason... Quote
AndrewHill Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 What label (s) were these concerts originally on if any? Quote
Kyo Posted February 7, 2008 Author Report Posted February 7, 2008 What label (s) were these concerts originally on if any? All the information I have is listed above. I got the CD today. The 1952 recording sounds decent even though the drums are mostly reduced to white noise. There's some distortion that's evident mostly during Duke Jordan's piano introductions. The 1949 recording sounds older but better, if that makes any sense... I'm quite happy with this purchase, it fills two gaps in my collection nicely. Quote
