ghost of miles Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Daedalus Books has this Tom Stoddard book in paperback for about $5 right now. It's a study of the early-20th-century jazz scene in San Francisco and sounds interesting. Just thought I'd tip off any readers who might want to pick it up on the cheap. (I'm a sucker for regional jazz histories myself.) Quote
JSngry Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Sounds interesting and affordable. Any reviews? Quote
jazzbo Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I've had this book in a stack of books to read for some time, and haven't gotten there yet. That is NO REFLECTION on the quality of the book itself, just I've taken a Velikoskian Egyptology detour, and had to read a few books my mother-in-law thrust upon me for discussion purposes . . . . This is a collection of oral histories and contemporary photos that is quite interesting to look at, and I know will be great to read. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I'm in the middle of reading this now. Really an interesting book. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Well, I'm now reading Caetano Veloso's "Tropical Truth," which is very interesting. "Jazz on the Barbary Coast" was a real hoot! Quote
