Soul Stream Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Just picked this up tonight in the used bin. Great blowing session that I'd never heard. These Prestige blowing sessions get a lot of grief for being...well, blowing sessions. But, imho it just doesn't get a whole let better than this. Great musicians playing jazz. Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 I agree that it's a good album, co-headlined with Donald Byrd. Check out it's companion as well, "All Day Long"! Some cat named Hank Mobley on these two as well... Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Agreed. some sweet playing! I especially like the piano players on these - Mal Waldron and Tommy Flanagan (I think it's Flanagan...I forget!), although I can't remember who plays on which volume! Really nice Donald Byrd as well, and some interesting tunes to boot. Quote
Soul Stream Posted September 24, 2003 Author Report Posted September 24, 2003 Yeah, Donald Byrd sounds especially good to me. Unexpectedly so. Clarion tone. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Never realized this existed. I've got "All Day Long." Quote
Simon Weil Posted September 25, 2003 Report Posted September 25, 2003 "All Night Long" and "All Day Long" came out on an LP twofer which I got a million years ago. The marvellous guitar riff on "All Day Long" gets me every time. Simon Weil Quote
