GA Russell Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Today is not only George Washington's birthday. It is also the 90th birthday of Don Pardo! I'm sure that most Americans now living think of him as the booth announcer of Saturday Night Live, but for me he will always be the announcer of The Price is Right with Bill Cullen. I didn't know that he, Milton Berle and Bob Hope are the only three people to have signed lifetime contracts with NBC! http://www.tv.com/don-pardo/person/137979/summary.html Quote
Randy Twizzle Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I always remember him as the announcer on the original Jeopardy with Art Fleming. Fleming used to always say "Thank you Don Pardo" after being introduced. Quote
JSngry Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Yeah, for us old folks, having Don Pardo on SNL was kind of an inside joke. Quote

Dan Gould Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I got the DVD set of Season 2 of SNL - does anyone recall a lengthy skit covering Don Pardo's "career"? As the voice over guy, he's invisible in every scene he's supposed to be in. A pretty good skit. As for Don's career and reaching the age of 90, hey, a big from me, but the fact is that if he came into the VO biz now with that pukey announcer thing, he'd never have gotten his career off the ground. His signature sound was perfect for a bygone era. Quote
GA Russell Posted February 23, 2014 Author Report Posted February 23, 2014 Happy 96th Birthday Don Pardo! Quote

JSngry Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 I heard him on SNL a few months ago and he sounded weak and hoarse and I thought uh-oh, here we go, but the next week he was fine again. Sigh of relief breathed. 96! Quote
