srellek Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Fred forever! Happy B-day to a true master. One of the greatest concerts I've ever seen was Fred with Hamid and Peter Kowald at the Empty Bottle, I think it was '99 or 2000, not long after the Velvet Lounge recording on Okka. What a motherf-er of a show. Much love indeed... Quote
sheldonm Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 ...one of the last photos I took of Fred at the "old" Velvet before the demolition! ..........playing with Hamid and Harrison. m Quote
jimi089 Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 I remember that show Mark. I see Darius Savage in the corner there. Good time last night at the Velvet - cake for Fred, candles, a festive atmosphere. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 He's a giant that I'm glad is still with us. I had some fine times at the old Velvet ca. 2001-2003 when I lived in Chicago. Great to see him play, but somehow I always got a kick out of him watching from the bar when it was somebody else's turn to raise the bandstand that night. Quote
paul secor Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Belated birthday wishes to one of the finest saxophonists on the planet. Quote

I really loved the old place but glad the new Velvet is in place and doing well! As someone said to me about the new location....it's nice, they just need to rub a litte dirt on it! m~ Quote
