Van Basten II Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) Every Good friday and obviously Easter break we tend to remember about the game that place that holy day . During the 1984 playoffs Habs were leading the series 3 to 2 against hated rivals Quebec Nordiques and were looking to clinch the series at home. The rest was history, to reminisce or to discover, here's the whole broadcast of that game. http://archives.radio-canada.ca/sports/plu...ts/clips/14858/ Edited March 23, 2008 by Van Basten II Quote
Dave James Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 VBII, So how would one who took 10 years of French between grade school, high school and college but who can barely say "bonjour" go about accessing other archived hockey games on this website? I would be particularly interested in games involving my Red Wings. Merci. Up over and out. Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 I think because of copyright reasons, very few complete archived games are available on a legal basis on the web. And the NHL makes sure to close down any site infringing them. In this case it's actually the site of the original broadcaster who's hosting the original tape At best you can maybe find on Youtube some highlights, anyway i'll try to do some research in my free time. Dave James Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Did you play? I did about 10 years in Portland, just local city leagues. Love the game and loved playing it. Too bad it doesn't work so good on TV. Seeing an NHL game in person is an unmatched kick. I've had the good fortune to see quite a number of Canuck games in Vancouver. I would imagine you've seen your share of Les Habitants. Maybe even at the old Forum. I rue the day Portland did not land the Penquins. My understanding from talking to folks who were pretty well positioned was that we were just a hair away from getting them here in Stumptown. My Lordy me. How great would that have been? Up over and out. Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 As a athlete , i'm as bad as it gets, i was the kind of kid who was always picked last in team sports, my skating skills made Garth Butcher look like Brian Boitano compared to me. Besides watching them sports were not a big part of my life. I went a few times at the old Forum, my first game there was the Habs against the Nordiques, at the time Guy Lafleur was playing for Quebec so it was the only time i got to see live my favourite player, it was quite a thrill. Saw a few Canada Cup games as well. Regarding the feeling about watching a game live compared on tv, it is quite amusing that most Americans have that problem, never felt that the game was that dilluted on the small screen. I remember my frustration when Fox started broadcasting games on National TV and used all those gimmicks like the glowing puck. Only good thing they did good was to devise the behind the net shot during a power play. To be honest i have stopped following the game a long time ago, i basically check out the scores on the newspaper and that's about it. Quote
Tim McG Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Pardon my killjoy-ness, but I kinda associate Good Friday with the crucification of Jesus. Call me spoiled. Quote
Van Basten II Posted March 23, 2008 Author Report Posted March 23, 2008 That's what made this game kinda blasphemous. Quote

Jazzmoose Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Too bad it doesn't work so good on TV. I think it works as well, or better, than baseball. But neither sport can really be appreciated on TV, I'll admit. Unlike football, which I always felt was better on TV. Quote

T.D. Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) That's what made this game kinda blasphemous. And here I thought it was Satan and the New Jersey Devils that made hockey blasphemous... Miroslav Satan, I presume... I used to play hockey; it was my best sport and I played in adult recreational leagues until shortly after turning 40 (the already none-too-great skills were eroding). I don't really recall the "Vendredi Saint" brawl; at that particular time in the '80s I wasn't following the LHN very closely. I really miss the Nordiques; they had great uniforms and played exciting hockey. While visiting Montreal in the mid-'90s I tried to buy a Nords jersey or t-shirt, but they were no longer available. Re. hockey on TV, I don't think it'll ever be popular, because people who never played always complain about not being able to follow the puck. Maybe the fighting also turns some off.
