captainwrong Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 (edited) OK just noticed some new stuff under the LRC banner showing up on eMusic. Kenny Clarke, Nat and Cannonball, Philly Joe...so, anyone know what the story is on these things? It doesn't look like stuff LRC has been recycling before. (At least I haven't seen any of this in the bargain bins I frequent.) All sounds like live stuff, I just have no idea who else is in there and what the story is. Gaah, LRC is a frustrating company. Dave James Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) I think the "L" in LRC stands for Lester, the surname of Sonny Lester. I used to see these bargain basement CD's at Tower for $4.99 a pop. Never bought one so I can't comment on their quality, but for what eMusic charges, how can you go too wrong? Up over and out. captainwrong Posted March 27, 2008 Author Report Posted March 27, 2008 Oh yeah, being a Jimmy McGriff fan I'm real familiar with old Sonny Lester. The problem is, the samples on this stuff sound like bootlegs. That and I really want to know who is playing with Philly Joe and Klook. Maybe when the credits roll over in a week, I'll check them out. Quote

captainwrong Posted April 14, 2008 Author Report Posted April 14, 2008 for the last three I'll guess: Village Green Yesterday Gingerbread Boy Joe Farrell, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones 10/29/1968 based on youtube/aol videos of two of the songs. I'll listen to some samples when I get home. It's definitely Elvin and Farrell on those tracks. That's kind of a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the sleuthing! Quote
captainwrong Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 FWIW, the last two tracks on the Philly "Jo" Jones album, 2/3 of the Elvin Trio stuff, are bad rips. Boo! Quote
