OK just noticed some new stuff under the LRC banner showing up on eMusic. Kenny Clarke, Nat and Cannonball, Philly Joe...so, anyone know what the story is on these things? It doesn't look like stuff LRC has been recycling before. (At least I haven't seen any of this in the bargain bins I frequent.) All sounds like live stuff, I just have no idea who else is in there and what the story is. Gaah, LRC is a frustrating company.

Nat and Cannonball

Philly Joe

Kenny Clarke

Charles Loyd/Gato Barbieri Quartet

Chet Baker

I think the "L" in LRC stands for Lester, the surname of Sonny Lester. I used to see these bargain basement CD's at Tower for $4.99 a pop. Never bought one so I can't comment on their quality, but for what eMusic charges, how can you go too wrong?

Up over and out.

Oh yeah, being a Jimmy McGriff fan I'm real familiar with old Sonny Lester. The problem is, the samples on this stuff sound like bootlegs. That and I really want to know who is playing with Philly Joe and Klook. Maybe when the credits roll over in a week, I'll check them out.

The other three track names are not found in that discography. Bet they are actually Elvin.

for the last three I'll guess:

Village Green

Yesterday

Gingerbread Boy

Joe Farrell, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones

10/29/1968

based on youtube/aol videos of two of the songs. I'll listen to some samples when I get home.

It's definitely Elvin and Farrell on those tracks. That's kind of a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the sleuthing!
