vibes Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 After hearing a few song samples from this set, I went and bought it today. My excitement quickly went away upon finding that all four CD's in the set were ruined. For those of you who haven't seen the packaging, the CD's are inserted into four slots in a foam block, which is some of the worst CD packaging I've ever seen. Apparently some liquid in the foam seeped out and stuck to the CD's. Has this happened to anyone else? Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 No, but mine nearly fell all over the floor when I opened the box. There were curses-a-plenty about this set's packaging on the ol' BNBB last year when it came out. Quote
kenny weir Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Nope, but I reckon it's only a matter of time 'till they're buggered. I play this set relatively regularly, but just infrequently enough so that I forget to hold the damn box FROM THE BOTTOM. Hold it from the top, and the discs cascade on to to the floor. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 remember aric told us how to cushion our mosaics awhile back? ss1 Quote
BruceH Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 One of the dumbest packaging jobs I've ever seen. I put mine in two double-CD cases and store the booklet alongside them. I kept the empty box for a while (don't ask me why) then finally tossed it. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Well, I thought the box looked cool... but agreed. Another keeper for the Bill Evans Complete on Verve Hall of Fame! I immediately put mine into single slimline jewel cases. Quote
RDK Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 Well, I bought the box and then sold it after I found a promo copy that came in a 4x jewel box. Quote
DrJ Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 I have to say it - why not just take the CDs out when you get them and put them in thin-line or regular jewel cases on your shelf? (Obviously that wouldn't help with vibes problem, but I've found it's a great way to lower your blood pressure in the years after purchase). Quote
stingrayto Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 my solution was to remove the black foam rubber from the bottom part of the package, it came out quite easily leaving a very small amount of the foam on one side of the box which i covered with scotch tape. i still had two of the old two cd jewel boxes for the four cds and they and the booklet fit perfectly. BruceH Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 (edited) Well, I thought the box looked cool... Which is probably why I kept the box around for awhile after storing the CD's in normal cases. But my house is cluttered enough without empty CD boxes kicking around. vibes Posted October 8, 2003 Author Report Posted October 8, 2003 Went back to the store, and after opening up a couple more boxes, finally found one where the CD's didn't have that sticky film on them. I am definitely going to put these in jewel cases the second I get home. Put the first CD on in the car and loved it! I'm very excited to hear the rest of the box. Quote
jlhoots Posted October 8, 2003 Report Posted October 8, 2003 3 of the 4 CDs in my box set have the same sticky stuff on the playing surface. I've called "customer service" at Columbia & supposedly someone is going to call me back. Hopefully they'll replace the set, & I'll store the CDs differently. Quote

Thanks for the suggestion. I just did the same thing-- though I had some trouble getting rid of the interior box. Quote
