JSngry Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Until 1972, he was always/just The Man With The Bigass Headphones to me. Then... RIP to a true pioneer who more than rose to more than one occasion. Quote
catesta Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 “the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat” I've got real fond memories of the Wide World of Sports and Jim McKay in general. When I was a kid, he like Howard Cosell was a fixture on the TV. Now we've got bonehads like Chris Berman. RIP, Mr. McKay. Quote
Quincy Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Nice to see for once a good long life and "natural causes" as the reason for death, rather than some awful disease. He was a good one! The Olympics haven't quite been the same for me since, though part of that is growing up too I suppose. I wonder if he'll be buried in a yellow jacket (with big ass headphones on.) R.I.P. Quote

Big Al Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 My father-in-law and I were talking about McKay and WWoS last weekend, and how Saturdays haven't been the same since they went off the air. Nothing ever is, I guess. RIP to a real sports hero. Quote
