i read somewhere that the photos were made during a presentation of coltrane´s new saxophone by his saxophone manufacture.

Trane's 1951 tenor is not the balanced action Selmer that he played from the mid 50s until it (presumably) broke and was replaced by a Selmer MK VI in about 1965.

What a pairing, Trane and Diz!
