Christiern Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) I think it is pretty amazing that I ordered a TV on Sunday, from Amazon, and it arrived today. No, I did not request expedited shipmentâin fact, shipment was free, and there was no tax. Couldn't resist a 37" Toshiba for $580. Now I'd better rearrange the pictures on my wall. jazzbo Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Wow, looks smaller than my 32" Sony! Must just be the angle of the dangle. Congrats, great deal. I love my HDTV, it's changed my watching world! Quote
Christiern Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Thanks, Lon, I think I might fall in love with Toshiba If you consider tht the amplifier and DVD player are normal component width, does it still look like a 32? Quote
Free For All Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 It's just because of Chris' giant ancestors and their glaring disapproval from above. Quote
Dave James Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 OK, Chris, fess up. What are we talking about speaker-wise with those triangular shaped enclosures? I don't think I've seen anything like that since my heavy duty stereo days way back in the '70's. Up over and out. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Some interesting little paintings to the right. How about a close up of those, Chris? Any word on their history and provenance? Quote
Christiern Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Dave, you nailed the time re my speakers. I've had them since the mid-Seventies. Don't recall much about them except that they were called "Pyramid" (or something like that) and they cost about $2,500 each at the time. Very outdated, I'm afraid, but they still work. Paintings and provenance coming upin the next few days. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 We gotta move up to color tv soon. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Chris, yes it looks like a 37" in that second image, it was just the angle of the first one. I'm sure that is one fine TV. I love Hi-Def! And I love how dvds and Blu-Rays look. I didn't know what I was missing! Cool speakers. . . are they Ohm speakers, they look as if they might be. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Old speakers be good. The best set I have are ADS/Braun from the '70s. Quote
vajerzy Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 My wife and I are shopping for a TV- my 1988 RCA 27 inch tube doesn't die- no matter what is done to it. Not sure what to get- it can't be more than 42 inches. Is that an LCD or Plasma? Quote
jazzbo Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I've bought two Sony LCDs, a 32" and 26" . . . LOVE them. No problems, excellent pictures. Quote
Christiern Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 LCD. You'll find detail here. Quote
makpjazz57 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I bought a 26" Toshiba LCD about a year ago and I have no complaints. The sound out of the built in stereo speakers is ver good. There certainly is a difference in the picture - regular channels vs. HD channels. Oh, and my jazz video collection look and sounds magnificent! Congratulations! Marla Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 It's just because of Chris' giant ancestors and their glaring disapproval from above. The guy below has her features...........must be the Great-Nephew, Thor. Quote
kinuta Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Nice tv and a really nice price. The same set bought in Tokyo would cost almost double. The slow motion crash of the dollar against the yen is going to push prices up a lot. If GM goes bust I dread to think what will happen to the rate, it could end up losing 30% or more of it's value compared with a few months ago. If that happens you'll see a dramatic rise in the price of Japanese imported goods. I wouldn't hesitate for second to buy such a nice tv for such a ridiculously low price. Quote
