The CD has new arrangements of some classic pieces recorded on Blue Note done by members of the group. Looks like amazon has a exclusive 2-disc version that includes the classic versions of the tunes by their composers. LWayne Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) Does anyone else find it ironic that most of these artists do not pesently record for the Blue Note label that they are saluting? LWayne Edited December 19, 2008 by LWayne Quote
Bluerein Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 How about non except for Charlap? Realy a shame imo. Quote
Aggie87 Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 They like to trot out these pat-on-the-back tribute recordings, don't they? Quote
Hot Ptah Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Another sad aspect of this is that these all-star packages are commonly booked by jazz concert presenters around the U.S., who are in charge of subscription series underwritten by corporations and/or public funds. The presenters apparently believe that these all-star packages will sell tickets, and that a working jazz band headed by a great musician will not. Quote
