medjuck Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 On the number called "The Chase" they play a very familiar riff but I can't remember what it's from. Anyone know? (It's about 3:30 into the piece.) It's driving me nuts. Quote
medjuck Posted December 20, 2008 Author Report Posted December 20, 2008 I just remembered: it's "Move". Quote
Gheorghe Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 I don´t know that special recording, but it´s very possible it was "Move", since Hamp during the late forties , like other masters of the swing era tried out some bop players also. Fats Navarro played with Hamp, Mingus contributed his "Mingus Fingers", so it might be natural, that the band also included some of that stuff. Anyway, Hamp himself was great in quoting other tunes during his solos.... Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 my favorite Hampton quote: "I sign ten records....nine of 'em have covers I ain't never seen befo'!!" ---Lionel Hampton as spoken to Chewy Quote
Gheorghe Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 my favorite Hampton quote: "I sign ten records....nine of 'em have covers I ain't never seen befo'!!" ---Lionel Hampton as spoken to Chewy that´s really a hip quote! Hamp was referring to all those Bootlegs, am I right? Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 well it wasnt necessarily a bootleg, but it was one of those session that popped up on a number of different labels, and just whored out to whomever wanted to press a copy, the one in particular was Santa monica civc aud. from i believe the early 50s... I have that one on a real drug store issue on Coronet records. I think I paid 99 cents for it in the late 60s or maybe early 70s. New. Quote
